BUSM to provide training on wound healing

Boston University School of Medicine has been chosen to be a Center of Wound Healing Excellence. The Center, which will be conducted through the department of dermatology, will provide ongoing continuing education on the principles of wound healing management and new wound care techniques. BUSM was selected as a Center because of the extensive experience of its researchers in this area.

An estimated 80 percent of health-care providers who treat patients with leg wounds are unfamiliar with advanced wound care treatment. BUSM is one of 17 Centers in the country chosen by the University of Pittsburgh to hold workshops that will give clinicians the opportunity to learn about wound care using lectures, panel discussions, and clinical cases.

"This program will allow healthcare providers to expand their knowledge of current wound care techniques and new developments in this rapidly evolving field," says Tania Phillips, associate professor of dermatology at BUSM and director of the clinical research center in the department of dermatology at Boston Medical Center. "As a Center, BUSM will have added resources to help ensure that physicians are trained to deliver the highest quality wound care available today."

Phillips has also been chosen as an editorial board member for the program and has helped determine the curriculum for the workshops.
