What's in a name? Everything, according to Alan Jette, who assumed the deanship of Sargent College in July of 1996. This year Sargent College of Allied Health Professions was renamed Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

"The name change is symbolic of an important change in the evolution of the mission of Sargent College," said Jette during a naming ceremony on October 17. The College was renamed "to better reflect the scope and quality of its educational, research, and clinical activities," he said. He added that the new name emphasizes the central role of science at Sargent College, and highlights the depth and range of teaching and research being conducted there.

At the ceremony, President Jon Westling pointed out that the faculty of Sargent College is doing work "at the cutting edge of a whole spectrum of disciplines." In addition, Dr. Leopold Selker, a nationally recognized authority on health policy, gerontology, health promotion, and disease prevention, spoke on the challenges facing this country's health-care system and its educational institutions.
