In dog years he'd be 525 this
fall. But in October 1960, at the BU-George
Washington University football game, this Rhett was
just a pup. The Boston terrier became the BU mascot
in 1922, after the idea had been floated by the BU
News. At least one reader was unimpressed, writing
to the paper, "I believe that some powerful animal
like an elephant or a dragon would be much better."
We surmise that cheerleader Diane E. Etienne (now
Faxon), a 1961 SON grad, was probably glad that the
dissenting voice was a bark in the wilderness. (See
