![]() BU Yesterday The hokey-pokey, perhaps? The College of Communication's recent 50th anniversary gala contrasts nicely with this photograph identified only as an SPRC dance from 1951. The institution that became COM has undergone several changes of mission -- and name -- since its beginnings as the School of Public Relations in September 1947. SPR opened with divisions of public relations, radio and speech, motion pictures and visual aids, and journalism. By 1950, "and Communications" was added to the title -- SPRC -- and in 1964 the name was simplified to School of Public Communications. Finally, in 1984, the School became a College when it was renamed COM. Photo: Boston University Photo Services |
