The Fall research deadline will be around mid-September (more info to come later). <\/b>.<br><br>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Process<\/span>: This application should be completed with the help of your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bmb\/faculty\/faculty\/\" target=\"_blank\">BMB research mentor<\/a> (or outside research mentor and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bmb\/faculty\/faculty\/\" target=\"_blank\">BMB faculty sponsor<\/a>. After submission, your mentor (and sponsor if applicable) will need to approve your application via the email link they are sent. Your application will then be reviewed by the Chair of the BMB Research and Honors Committee. If approved, Anne Hildebrand will register you for the course and send you a confirmation email.\n<br><br>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Note<\/span>: This application does not save your responses if you close the tab. For a summary of changes, please see <a href=\"\/bmb\/files\/2021\/05\/Changes-to-Undergraduate-Research-in-BMB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">this document<\/a>.<\/li><li id=\"field_18_40\"  class=\"gfield gfield--type-section gsection field_sublabel_below gfield--no-description field_description_above gfield_visibility_visible\"  data-js-reload=\"field_18_40\"><h2 class=\"gsection_title\">BMB Research Guidelines<\/h2><\/li><li id=\"field_18_94\"  class=\"gfield gfield--type-html gfield_html gfield_html_formatted gfield_no_follows_desc field_sublabel_below gfield--no-description field_description_above gfield_visibility_visible\"  data-js-reload=\"field_18_94\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bmb\/undergraduate-research-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\">BMB Research Guidelines<\/a> should be reviewed with your research mentor (and BMB faculty sponsor if applicable) prior to submitting this application. These guidelines outline the responsibilities and expectations of each party.\n\nThere is also additional information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/tools-services\/research-recovery-toolkit\/approved-labs\/\" target=\"_blank\">\"Return to Research\"<\/a> plan affecting research in the 2020\/2021 academic year. Please read the following responsibilities for students participating in Undergraduate Research in BMB.\n<br><br>\n<h5>Responsibilities of the Student:<\/h5>\n<ol>\n \t<li><em>Application<\/em>: The online application for Undergraduate Research should be filled out with the help of your research mentor (and BMB Program faculty sponsor if applicable). Your research mentor (and sponsor, if applicable) must electronically approve your submitted application. After review and approval by the Chair of the BMB Research and Honors Committee, you will be registered for the research course indicated in your application and you will receive an email confirmation.<\/li>\n \t<li><em>Research<\/em>: Research projects must involve laboratory research appropriate to the BMB degree. During the academic year, you are expected to devote a minimum of four (4) hours\/week per credit to the project. During either summer term, you are expected to devote a minimum of eight (8) hours\/week per credit. Other research-related obligations like lab meetings may count towards this time commitment. Please note: you are not permitted to be paid (e.g., through UROP) <u>and<\/u> receive academic credit at the same time.<\/li>\n \t<li><em>BMB Faculty Mentor\/Sponsor<\/em>: To find a BMB faculty research mentor, you can review and contact faculty listed on the BMB website, ask your assigned academic advisor for suggestions, or talk with TFs in your courses. If you find a research mentor outside of the BMB Program, you and your mentor <u>must<\/u> identify a BMB faculty member with related research interests to serve as your sponsor and liaison between the BMB Program and your outside mentor. <u>You are expected to meet with your BMB faculty mentor\/sponsor on a regular basis during the semester (at least 2-3 times)<\/u> to discuss expectations, your research progress, and any issues or questions that you may have regarding your research experience.<\/li>\n \t<li><em>Grading:<\/em> Your research mentor (and sponsor, if applicable) should outline the grading requirements with you before the semester starts. At the end of the semester, your BMB faculty mentor will assign your grade (if working in an outside lab, your BMB sponsor will consult your outside research mentor before assigning the grade).<\/li>\n \t<li><em>HUB requirements: <\/em>Students earn general education credit (Hub units) while performing Undergraduate Research. The Hub units earned will build with each continuing semester or research.
