{"id":849,"date":"2014-04-17T13:25:45","date_gmt":"2014-04-17T17:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/?p=849"},"modified":"2015-06-28T14:08:36","modified_gmt":"2015-06-28T18:08:36","slug":"students-win-prestigious-nsf-grfps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/2014\/04\/17\/students-win-prestigious-nsf-grfps\/","title":{"rendered":"Students win prestigious NSF GRFPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2014 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships were announced and the Department of Biology is proud to acknowledge four graduate students for their awards:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tiffany Dill<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/people\/faculty\/naya\/\">Naya Lab<\/a>): characterizing the roles of Mef2 and the Gtl2-Dio3 cluster in regulating the cell cycle of terminally differentiated heart muscle cells. Also examining how these transcription factors and microRNAs affect the cell cycle of proliferating cell types, such as stem cells.\u00a0Tiffany is in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/biology-graduate-program\/graduate\/programs\/cell-molecular\/\">Cell and Molecular Biology program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amanda Gallinat<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/primacklab.blogspot.com\/\">Primack Lab<\/a>):\u00a0studying the effects of climate change on the autumn phenology of plants, insects, and birds in New England.\u00a0Amanda is in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/biology-graduate-program\/graduate\/programs\/ecology\/\">Ecology, Behavior and Evolution program<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew Hoadley <\/strong>(<a href=\"http:\/\/people.bu.edu\/jftlab\/Home.html\">Traniello Lab<\/a>): studying the relationship between division of labor, brain investment, and synaptic structure in the leaf-cutter ant <em>A. cephalotes<\/em>.
