Biology PhD student Sabrina Samad Shoily of the Garcia-Marcos Lab<\/a> recently received an\u00a0<\/span>International Fellowship from the American Association of University Women<\/a>\u00a0(AAUW). This fellowship promotes education and equity for women b<\/span>y\u00a0<\/span>investing in\u00a0<\/span>international applicants<\/span>\u00a0who will be<\/span>\u00a0pursuing<\/span>\u00a0postgraduate<\/span>\u00a0studies<\/span>\u00a0or research<\/span>\u00a0in the U.S.<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0with the intention<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0applying their\u00a0<\/span>expertise<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0profession<\/span>al<\/span>\u00a0skills<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and leadership\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>the context of\u00a0<\/span>their\u00a0<\/span>home countries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sabrina’s research focuses on developing biosensors for detecting G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-G protein activity with high fidelity. She will study cellular signaling made by receptors that regulate women\u2019s health by using genetically-modified mice and high precision biosensors in relevant cellular systems. The approach has the potential to lead to developing more precise and effective therapies for hormone-related health issues in women. Her long-term aim is to lead a team of academic researchers focused on cellular signaling and to prepare future scientists through training and mentorship.<\/p>\n
