- Area of Study Behavioral Biology
Where are you from?
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
What is your major and how did you choose it?
I started at BU as a general Biology student, but in my sophomore year, I decided to specialize in Behavioral Biology. I loved that the coursework allowed me to tailor the major to my personal interests by taking a combination of biology, neuroscience, psychology, and anthropology courses. I am fascinated by how behavior connects to each of these subjects, and specializing in Behavioral Biology allows me to explore this.
What is your favorite biology course?
My favorite Biology course so far has been Behavioral Biology with Dr. James Traniello! This class provides such great experience in writing a scientific research paper, which is a semester-long assignment in this course. You are able to select any topic that interests you, and Dr. Traniello provides guidance at each step. This course helped me learn so much as a scientist and solidify my interests as a biology student.
What extracurricular activities are you involved with?
I am the treasurer of Students Care at BU, a group that volunteers weekly with the patients at Franciscan Children’s Hospital and hosts monthly playroom events for the kids. I also work as a peer mentor in the Biology Department, and I am a Co-Captain of BU’s Varsity Dance Team!
What’s the best place on campus to study or relax?
Caffe Nero or the 2nd floor of Student Village 2 (Stuvi2)!
What’s one BU tip you wish you knew sooner?
Don’t be afraid to ask professors, TA’s, classmates, or tutors for help! BU Biology classes can be very challenging, and it will only benefit you to use your resources and reach out to the people around you!
What are your post-graduation plans?
I am planning to complete a masters degree in Biology before attending medical school, while continuing to volunteer at local children’s hospitals. My ultimate goal is to become a Pediatrician and possibly specialize in Oncology or Psychiatry!
