width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In February, exogenous variables <\/span><span>had<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the most dramatic impact on the 17 subsectors of the Boston University School of Hospitality Stockwatch.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>As we look further into 2025<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, changes in government policies, interest rates, and global economic conditions<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>could play an even greater role in sha<\/span><span>ping the performance of the 120+ stocks we monitor \u2013 potentially more than in recent years<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For example, in February 2025, the cruise sector <\/span><span>declined by over <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">10%<\/span><span> despite positive <\/span><span>earnings<\/span><span> news.<\/span>\u00a0<span>Both <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Royal Caribbean and Carnival <\/span><span>reported <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">solid results<\/span><span> <\/span><span>with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> expectation<\/span><span>s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> that pricing power would <\/span><span>persist<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> even in the face of increasing supply. <\/span><span>However,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> President Trump\u2019s new Commerce Secretary <\/span><span>expressed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> frustration that the cruise sector does not \u201cpay taxes\u201d (Bachman, 2025). <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In contrast, one of the strongest<\/span><span>-performing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> sectors this past month was Gaming Triple Net Lease REIT, whose dividend yields may become more attractive as interest<\/span><span> rates<\/span> <span>p<\/span><span>otentially<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> move lower in response to a slowing economy. <\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>A growing concern<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is whether consumer and business spending <\/span><span>will decline due <\/span><span>to the rapidly shifting global landscape<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, <\/span><span>driven by<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> caution and uncertainty. <span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\">For<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\"> hospitality stocks, we watch for any <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\">signal<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\">s of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\"> a slowdown in business and leisure <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\">travel<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentHighlightClickedRefresh SCXW34317851 BCX0\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>February 2025 Winners and Losers\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Two of the biggest movers in February were Cava (down 30%) and Sweetgreen (down 31%). \u00a0<\/span><span>B<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">oth were <\/span><span>strong<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> performers in 2024, and even <\/span><span>a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> hint of a slowdown in recently reported results sent s<\/span><span>hares tumbling<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
