{"id":3149,"date":"2018-05-16T13:48:01","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T17:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/best\/?page_id=3149"},"modified":"2018-05-16T14:04:56","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T18:04:56","slug":"internship-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/best\/internship-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Internship Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics --><br \/>\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.googletagmanager.com\/gtag\/js?id=UA-117784070-2\"><\/script><br \/>\n<script>\r\nwindow.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];\r\nfunction gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}\r\ngtag('js', new Date());\r\n\r\ngtag('config', 'UA-117784070-2');\r\n<\/script><\/p>\n<h4><strong>GUIDELINES<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4>Eligibility<\/h4>\n<p>At the time of application the applicant must be at least a 4<sup>th<\/sup> year bio-medical doctoral student (post-qualifying exam) or postdoctoral research scientist conducting bio-medical research at Boston University.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend the pre-internship <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/best\/resources\/upcoming-events\/\">workshops<\/a>\u00a0or view <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/best\/resources\/recorded-professional-development-and-career-events\/\">previously recorded workshops<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Workshops include: Professionalism 101, Intellectual Property: What YOU Should Know, Communication, Managing Up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>When applicable, attend the experience-specific workshops described in the Experience application.<\/li>\n<li>Have all required compliance approvals and\/or certificates<\/li>\n<li>A completed IDP on file in BU\u2019s BEST office (<a href=\"http:\/\/myidp.sciencecareers.org\/\">myIDP<\/a> or <a href=\"\/best\/files\/2016\/02\/BU-IDP-Jan-2016.pdf\">BU IDP<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For graduate students, have satisfactory academic performance defined by PI sign off<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>To apply for an internship, an applicant should fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonu.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_elzy59cBRdIktQ9\">application<\/a>. \u00a0You will be asked to\u00a0upload \u00a0the following documents \u00a0as a single pdf file with your name in the file-name to the end of the application.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/best\/files\/2016\/01\/BEST_PI_internship-_agreement_v3.pdf\">Approval Form<\/a>\u00a0signed by PI, including confirmation of satisfactory academic performance for graduate students<\/li>\n<li>Tailored one or two page resume (<em><a href=\"\/best\/files\/__restricted\/entire-bu-community\/sample-resume.doc\">example resume<\/a><\/em>). You can have your resume reviewed before the application by Lauren Celano (<a href=\"https:\/\/bubest.clickbook.net\/sub\/bubest#.VmH3XXarRhE\"><em>schedule a time<\/em><\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Summary page of a\u00a0personality assessment (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanmetrics.com\/cgi-win\/jtypes2.asp\">free Myers-Briggs test<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bostonu.qualtrics.com\/SE\/?SID=SV_6D3o4U78wohj0Vv\">Pre-internship Evaluation<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Selection Process<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Candidates will be selected based upon the EXPERIENCE\u00a0site requirements. Qualified\u00a0applicants will receive an interview with BU\u2019s BEST leadership. BU\u2019s BEST will present qualified applicants to the EXPERIENCE site. The EXPERIENCE\u00a0site will make the final decision.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Requirements to Maintain the\u00a0<\/strong>EXPERIENCE<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Fulfill the\u00a0<a href=\"\/best\/files\/2015\/12\/Internship-Permission-Form-final.pdf\">PI agreement<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Fulfill all duties assigned in the Experience site<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Reporting Back<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Mid-term and Post-internship evaluation that includes an evaluation of all learning objectives and EXPERIENCE site<\/li>\n<li>All internship and externship participants will give a presentation\/participate in a panel to their peers and BU\u2019s BEST leadership to give feedback about the\u00a0EXPERIENCE<\/li>\n<li>The EXPERIENCE\u00a0site will also be surveyed midterm and at the end of the\u00a0EXPERIENCE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GUIDELINES Eligibility At the time of application the applicant must be at least a 4th year bio-medical doctoral student (post-qualifying exam) or postdoctoral research scientist conducting bio-medical research at Boston University.
