School of Law

At the BU School of Law, we are indeed building on excellence! As a BU Law student, you can select from more than 200 different courses, concentrate in any of five focus areas, and cross-register for hundreds of other classes in BU’s other schools and graduate programs.

We offer 15 dual degrees, with students earning a JD and a master’s degree by combining law with other graduate programs; and 17 foreign study opportunities in 14 locations worldwide. Of key importance, you can engage every day with some of America’s most acclaimed legal scholars right here on campus.

Our graduates are governors, U.S. senators, state and federal judges, corporate leaders, diplomats, writers, distinguished teachers, and leading practitioners in nearly all legal specialties. In 2012, we were ranked third best in the nation in the Princeton Review’s The Best 168 Law Schools. Our School also got high praise for a “breadth of curricula that is matched by few other schools anywhere in the country.”

The Sumner M. Redstone Building: Making a Difference in the Lives of Our Students

The Sumner M. Redstone Building already has made a significant, tangible impact on Boston University School of Law since opening at the start of the 2014–2015 academic year.

“It’s like an entirely different school,” says Dean O’Rourke. Students are everywhere, enjoying the many spaces for studying and socializing, which has increased their interaction with faculty, the administration, and their classmates. And the light, open design makes it easy to get from floor to floor.

“It is a real source of pride for students,” says Student Government Associate President Meghan Kelly (LAW’15). The completion of this project is evidence of what a difference the School’s donors can make—and have made—at the law school.

So far in The Campaign for Boston University, LAW has been proud to receive 8 scholarships, 2 professorships, a new building, and countless other gifts from alumni, parents, and friends.

In 2014, we opened the Sumner M. Redstone Building at the School of Law, thanks to an $18 million gift from Redstone.
