The Fitness and Recreation Center

2005-present

Feel like dancing? Swimming? Running, skating, lifting, climbing, flexing, spinning, sailing, boxing, fencing, or golfing? The Fitness & Recreation Center (FitRec), located at the heart of the Charles River Campus, offers hundreds of classes including all of the above—and much more.

One of the largest and premier fitness centers in the Northeast, and a true hub of campus, FitRec is one of BU’s most active and well-known destinations. Opened in 2005 as part of the John Hancock Student Village, it contains an 18,000-square-foot weight and cardio room, a 1/7-mile indoor running track, a climbing wall, a Pro Shop, racquetball and squash courts, two swimming pools, and the vaunted lazy river. FitRec members also have access fitness and recreation facilities at the Case Center and Track & Tennis Center.

For students, faculty, and staff, FitRec is the hub for club and intramural sports, day-to-day workouts, classes for credit, and general socializing. They can also enroll in special training classes to become lifeguards or EMTs. For families, FitRec hosts school vacation programs, swimming lessons, tumbling classes, and much more.
