The program is offered by the College of Arts &amp; Sciences (CAS) in conjunction with the Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences (GRS).<\/p>\n<p>Because the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/astronomy\/ba-ma-astrophysics\/\">BA-to-MA in Astrophysics &amp; Space Physics<\/a><\/strong> requires completion of both the BA in Astronomy &amp; Physics and the MA in Astronomy, students interested in the program should refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/bama-programs\/\">GRS Bulletin website<\/a> for important information.<\/p>\n<p>For information on application requirements and deadlines, prospective BA\/MA students should refer to the Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/ma-ms\/dual-degree-programs-bama-and-bams\/\">Bachelor&#8217;s-to-Master&#8217;s Programs website<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Degree Learning Outcomes<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nThe learning outcomes include those for both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/astronomy\/ba-astronomy-physics\/\">BA in Astronomy &amp; Physics<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/grs\/programs\/astronomy\/ma\/\">MA in Astronomy<\/a>:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>BA in Astronomy &amp; Physics<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the principles of astronomy.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the principles of physics.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate astronomical information effectively, using a variety of media and methods, and to a range of audiences.<\/li>\n<li>Think critically and evaluate, interpret, and solve problems related to astronomical topics as well as other technical and general scientific topics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>MA in Astronomy<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate graduate-level knowledge of astronomy and physics, including the following topics: fundamental physics and astrophysics; gravitation, electromagnetism, and quantum mechanics appropriate to astronomy; and the dynamical behavior of space and astrophysical plasmas.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate graduate-level knowledge of observational techniques used to study astronomical and space phenomena.<\/li>\n<li>Perform directed research within that discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Present directed research to a committee of faculty members and to a scientific audience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<hr>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Requirements<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nThe requirements of the BA\/MA program are those of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/astronomy\/ba-astronomy-physics\/\">BA in Astronomy &amp; Physics<\/a> <b>plus<\/b> those of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/grs\/programs\/astronomy\/ma\/\">MA in Astronomy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>GPA Requirement<\/h4>\n<p>Only those students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 overall and 3.3 in mathematics, physics, and astronomy courses will normally be admitted into the BA\/MA program in Astrophysics &amp; Space Physics.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<hr>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The BA-to-MA Program in Astrophysics &amp; Space Physics is designed for those well-prepared students who wish to obtain a master\u2019s degree by adding a fifth year of intensive study in astrophysics &amp; space physics.
