The Astronomy Department is located in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) building at 725 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. We are approximately one mile west of Kenmore Square, the location of two famous Boston landmarks: Fenway Park and the Citgo sign. (The Citgo sign can be seen for many miles, and is an excellent landmark to use when trying to find us by car.)
When traveling by car you will usually find parking difficult. If you can do so, arrange to have a parking pass waiting for you either at Lot J behind our building (at the end of Bay State Road), or Lot K which is across Commonwealth Avenue under the Warren Towers (three tall dormitories). If you have arranged to park in one of our lots use one of these map links instead: Lot J – http://www.bu.edu/maps/?id=872, Lot K – http://www.bu.edu/maps/?id=873. Please note that we do not arrange parking for the Observatory Open Nights.
If you are using the MBTA, take the “B” Green Line to the Boston University East stop, which will leave you in front of the building. Walk west (away from Kenmore Square) to find the 725 Commonwealth Ave. entrance.
If you end up in the parking lot behind the building, enter the building via the ramp, turn right, and take the first elevator on your right to either the fourth (IAR, CISM) or fifth (Astronomy, CSP) floors. From the Commonwealth Ave. side of the building, enter at the 725 Commonwealth entrance and take that same elevator.
