- Benjamin Bahan (Ph.D. 1996, Applied Linguistics) - His doctoral dissertation was a groundbreaking study of the linguistic expression of agreement in ASL. Upon graduation, he accepted a position as Associate Professor and Chairman of the Deaf Studies Department at Gallaudet University. He is now a tenured Professor and director of the MA program in the Department of ASL and Deaf Studies. He is a renowned author, as well; his stories are known throughout the world.

- Stephen Nover - went on to obtain his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2000; now Center for ASL/English Bilingual Research Director, The New Mexico School for the Deaf. He "has been doing cutting-edge research on bilingual-bicultural programming for deaf students. He also provides staff training to several deaf schools in the nation."

- Judy Mounty (Ed.D., 1986) - Director, Center for ASL Literacy, Gallaudet University. Before going to Gallaudet, she worked for seven years as a research scientist at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, N.J., where she conducted research in bilingualism and literacy.

- Julie Simon (M.Ed., 1985) - Ph.D., CI, CT. Coordinator, Region X Interpreter Education Center (IEC), Western Oregon University. The IEC is an RSA-funded program that provides continuing education opportunities to interpreters in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

- Shannon Allen (SED, 1994), now at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. Currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania.

- Todd Czubek, currently M. Ed./PhD. student, Penn State College. Also Bilingual Mentor at the Scranton State School for the Deaf and director of the The Magical Literacy Camp.

- Barbara Gerner de Garcia (Ed.D. 1993) - currently Associate Professor, Department of Educational Foundations and Research Gallaudet University.

- Jason Hurdich (CAS - Political Science, 1997). Jason was an ASL Instructor at Harvard University for about five years. He is now an ASL Specialist in the American Sign Language/ Interpreter Training Program at the University of Louisville. He fought for acceptance of ASL while he was at Boston University, and in 1994 he founded the Boston University Deaf Organization, which is still active.

- Susan McBurney (M.Ed.) - now a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington conducting linguistic research on ASL.

- Debra Aarons (Ph.D. 1994, Applied Linguistics) - Her doctoral dissertation concerned the syntactic structure of ASL. After receiving her Ph.D., she went to the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa as a Professor of Linguistics, and received tenure there. She started a program on South African Sign Language. She has recently moved to Australia and will be assuming a new position in the Linguistics Department of the University of New South Wales.

- Dawn MacLaughlin (Ph.D. 1997, Applied Linguistics) - After completing a dissertation on ASL syntax, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Linguistics at McGill University. She is currently working for netegrity.com.

- Jack Hoza (Ph.D. 2001, Applied Linguistics) - also CSC, CI, CT. Jack is now Director of the Sign Language Interpretation program at UNH, Manchester.

- Robert G. Lee (MA, Applied Linguistics) - also CI/CT. Currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program at Boston University and conducting research on ASL syntax, he has taught interpreting at Northeastern University and also served as a member of the RID's Professional Standards Committee as well as the Conference of Interpreter Trainers' Educational Standards Committee. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Interpretation.

- Ruth Bergida Grossman (BS 1992, MS 1993, Ph.D. 2001 in neurolinguistics, UNI) - her thesis was entitled, "Dynamic Facial Expressions in American Sign Language: Behavioral, Neuro-imagery, and Facial Coding Analyses in Deaf and Hearing Subjects."

- Janis Cole (M.Ed.) - Instructor of Education, Developmental Studies and Counseling, Boston University

- Jimmy Challis Gore (M.Ed.) teaches in the English Language Institute at Gallaudet University.

- Lana Cook (M.Ed.) - is working at WGBH, National Center for Accessible Media.

- Ginger Leon (M.Ed.) - is a Visiting Lecturer in the American Sign Language and Deaf Studies Program at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. She has also taught ASL at the Framingham Learning Center, among other places.

- Sandy (Barbosa) Lygren (M.Ed. 1994)- also CI/CT. Program Director and Assistant Professor of Deaf Studies at Bristol Community College and current Chair of the Dept. of Language and Communication. Sandy was responsible for gaining ASL's acceptance as a foreign language at Bristol in 1999 and was/is a strong voice/advocate in the debate to accept ASL as transfer credit at UMass Dartmouth and Bridgewater State College (which is now happening).

- David Geeslin (M.Ed. 1991) - currently a doctoral candidate at Indiana University in School Administration and an Educational Consultant at the Indiana School for the Deaf. He is now gathering data about the relationship between the age of acquisition of ASL and academic performance. David was co-author of the ASL bill in the State of Indiana that recognizes ASL as a full-fledged language meeting foreign language requirements.

- Patrick Costello (M.Ed.) - "is currently the Middle School Supervisor at The Learning Center for Deaf Children in Framingham, Massachusetts. He has taught history, American Sign Language, and Deaf Studies at the high school level. Patrick is a graduate of New York School for the Deaf (Fanwood). He received a B.A. in Accounting from Gallaudet University and his master's in Deaf Education from Boston University. In addition to his experience at The Learning Center, he was a linguistics research assistant at Boston University and has co-authored an article on the role of American Sign Language and educational practices with deaf students. Patrick currently serves on the Massachusetts Department of Education Statewide Special Education Advisory Council and the Statewide Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing." - Mike Bello (SED) - "has been the executive director of The Learning Center for Deaf Children in Framingham, Massachusetts since 1996. Previously, he held several other positions in the school... He helped create the "Massachusetts Guidelines for the Education of the Deaf" and has served on several statewide and national educational advisory committees. Bello is a graduate of the Boston University Deaf Education Program and has been an educator of deaf students since 1969." [from this Web page]

- Laura Gonnerman (BA 1988, CLA) - Ph.D. in Linguistics from USC. Currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Lehigh University.

- Norma Tourangeau (SED) - now a Deaf teacher and actrice. Read about her in the April 16, 2004 issue of the Allston-Brighton Tab .

- Willy Conley - has a Master of Arts degree in playwriting from Boston University, where he studied under Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott. He is now " theatre arts professor at Gallaudet and acclaimed playwright, actor and director." - Joan Poole Nash (SED, 1980, 1981) - a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing in Newton, Massachusetts; see, e.g., these sites for information about her study of the sign language used on Martha's Vineyard:
