About the speaker:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joseph Fewsmith<\/strong> is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at the Boston University Pardee School. He is the author or \"\"editor of nine books, including, most recently,\u00a0<\/span>Rethinking Chinese Politics\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(June 2021). Other works include\u00a0<\/span>The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China\u00a0<\/i>(January 2013),\u00a0<\/span>China since Tiananmen\u00a0<\/i>(2nd edition, 2008), and\u00a0China Today, China Tomorrow<\/i>\u00a0(2010). Other books include\u00a0Elite Politics in Contemporary China<\/i>\u00a0(2001),\u00a0The Dilemmas of Reform in China: Political Conflict and Economic Debate<\/i>\u00a0(1994), and\u00a0Party, State, and Local Elites in Republican China: Merchant Organizations and Politics in Shanghai, 1890-1930<\/i>\u00a0(1985). He is one of the seven regular contributors to the\u00a0China Leadership Monitor<\/i>, a quarterly web publication analyzing current developments in China.<\/p>\n

Fewsmith travels to China regularly and is active in the Association for Asian Studies and the American Political Science Association. His articles have appeared in such journals as\u00a0Asian Survey<\/i>,\u00a0Comparative Studies in Society and History<\/i>,\u00a0The China Journal<\/i>,\u00a0The China Quarterly<\/i>,\u00a0Current History<\/i>,\u00a0The Journal of Contemporary China<\/i>,\u00a0Problems of Communism<\/i>, and\u00a0Modern China<\/i>. He is an associate of the John King Fairbank Center for East Asian Studies at Harvard University and the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future at Boston University.<\/p>\n

Professor Fewsmith\u2019s areas of expertise include comparative politics as well as Chinese domestic politics and foreign policy.<\/p>\n
