Kamioroshi occurs in sacred time and space. It bends and fuses both dimensions to bring a Shawnee and an African American fugitive slave into an encounter with Japanese peasants during the violent and destructive creation of modernity. Discovering that they share many fundamental values in common, they set out on a pilgrimage to rectify the world.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Artist Bios<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"0\" tabindex=\"0\">Ron Richardson &#8211; Playwright<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"0\" tabindex=\"0\">Sonoko Kawahara &#8211; Director<\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container bu_collapsible_open\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\">\n<p><span>Sonoko Kawahara is a New York-based theatre director, performer, and choreographer. Her works have been presented notable performance spaces such as New York Theater Workshop, Dance Theater Workshop, HERE Arts Center, P.S.122, Women\u2019s Project, Music Theater Group, La MaMa E.T.C, Japan Society, etc. Her work has been supported by Rockefeller\u2019s MAP, NEA, Japan Foundation, The Jim Henson Foundation, Asian Cultural Council, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and others. She is a Drama League directing fellow and a member of \u201cUsual Suspects\u201d at NYTW, Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab.\u00a0 She is also a guest artist at Fordham University and NYU, Artist-in-Resident at Boston University and was a Resident Artist of Mabou Mines. She holds an MFA in directing from Columbia University School of Arts. Kawahara is the co-founder and artistic director of Crossing Jamaica Avenue.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"0\" tabindex=\"0\">Momo Suzuki &#8211; Choreography<\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container bu_collapsible_open\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\">Momo Suzuki founded the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of NY in 1992 to promote and preserve the traditional folk dances of Japan and to expose American audiences to Japanese culture. Ms. Suzuki and her company have performed at venues and events such as the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Asian Night at Shea Stadium, Disney\u2019s Epcot Center, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While acting as choreographer for the institute\u2019s primary dance troupe, Minbuza, she also uses\u00a0her extensive knowledge and experience in the traditional performing arts to serve\u00a0as\u00a0choreographer and technical\/cultural advisor to numerous American and Japanese productions, recently advising for the Portland Opera\u2019s 2019 staging of Puccini\u2019s Madame Butterfly. Her\u00a0choreography\u00a0work can be seen in diverse\u00a0arenas such as C. Eule Dance\u2019s\u00a0\u201cThe Crane Wife\u201d, Madonna\u2019s music video,\u00a0\u201cNothing Really Matters\u201d, as well as at the 2012 and 2016 Winter Olympics Ice Dance programs for Japan National Team\u2019s Cathy and Chris Reed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"0\" tabindex=\"0\">Kevin Suzuki &#8211; Choreography<\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container bu_collapsible_open\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\">\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\">Kevin began his training from the age of five, learning Japanese folk dance from his mother, Momo Suzuki. As a young child, Kevin began\u00a0performing professionally with Minbuza, The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of NY\u2019s primary dance troupe, appearing at venues such as The Asia Society and The Metropolitan Museum of\u00a0Art. Currently, Kevin serves as Assistant Director in JFDINY, while also appearing as a featured solo and ensemble dancer.\u00a0Annual appearances include the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens Cherry Blossom Festival and Japan Day@Central Park. His dance expertise is in the folk cultures of Northern Japan, most notably Iwate\u2019s Nameshida Onikenbai, an Intangible Cultural Property of which he is the sole practitioner outside of Japan. His solo choreography credits include Riyo Saito\u2019s chamber opera,\u00a0\u201cDojoji\u201d, performed at Carnegie Hall\u2019s Weill Recital Hall in 2019.
