Our musical journey through love will lead you from the sultry tones of desire to the sheer ecstasy of exultation; from the dark hand of grief and despair to the clenched fist of jealousy, anger, and revenge; and finally back to resurrection, forgiveness, and the peace of the pastoral world, where all things are perfect.

The Composers and the Music
We begin with the overture and a scene from La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina, a comic opera by Francesca Caccini, first performed in 1625. A scene from the cantata Frà Dori, e Fileno by Camilla de Rossi follows. Next on the program are Barbara Strozzi’s exquisite and rapturous vocal duets, as well as her heart-wrenching serenata Hor che Apollo. Antonia Bembo is represented by short humorous arias from her Produzioni Armoniche. The second half of the concert features Julie Pinel’s exquisite and miniaturistic French baroque music. The program is balanced by elegant and spirited trio sonatas by Isabella Leonarda and Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre.

[A] “steamy torch song given a fitting, sultry performance” in “an exchange of virtuosic leaps and flourishes in a rapturous duet” –Bay Windows

Camila Parias, Daniela Tošić, voices
Yi-Li Chang, violin, viola da gamba; Nathaniel Cox, theorbo & cornetto
Ruth McKay, harpsichord; Laury Gutiérrez, viola da gamba

Tickets: $35 reserved, $25 general, $15 seniors, $5 low income & students
Green Line C train: church is two blocks south of Coolidge Corner stop.
