In it, a drunken woodcutter plays physician. What could go wrong? <!--more-->Will his <em>faux pas<\/em> be found out? Will his patient\u2014the beautiful Lucinde\u2014overcome her illness to be reunited with her lover, L\u00e9andre? Will Lucinde&#8217;s father, G\u00e9ronte, be outwitted? <em>Zut alors !\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span>Sganarelle, a boozy lumberjack, impersonates a doctor in this brilliant\u00a0<\/span><em>op\u00e9ra comique<\/em><span>\u00a0based on the play by Moli\u00e8re. Confusion abounds! Will Sganarelle be discovered a fraud? Will his patient, the beautiful Lucinde, overcome her illness and be united with her lover Leandre? Will her father, Geronte, be outwitted by the \u201cmock doctor?\u201d Will anyone be left standing in the end? This is a work greatly admired by Stravinsky and Strauss, who considered it a masterpiece, and Berlioz who proclaimed it \u201cGounod is at his best!\u201d Its elegant orchestration and vivid characters have enchanted audiences since its premiere and is sure to enchant you this coming fall.
