Prior to his work at the Council, Dr. Holmgren\u00a0was a concert saxophonist, performing with a diverse group of organizations from the United States Military Academy Band at West Point to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.\u00a0 He has been on faculty at Frostburg State University and Columbia University, in addition to being a guest lecturer at more than a half dozen other institutions.\u00a0 His writing has been published in <em>Symphony Magazine<\/em>, <em>Bass World<\/em>, <em>The Saxophone Symposium<\/em>, <em>WorldBlu Magazine<\/em>, the <em>Journal of Research in Music Performance<\/em> and most recently, <em>in Youth Development as Music Learning<\/em>, a new book published by Routledge.
