Alumni Spotlight Interview

Nicole O’Connor graduated from the Arts Administration graduate program at Boston University in 2017. She earned a Master of Arts degree in human development and family studies in 2013 from the University of Connecticut. Her graduate career focused on developing techniques in marriage and family therapy, which included work with individuals, couples, and families that were experiencing anxiety or depression as well as coping with grief and loss. Nicole is the founder of Shanachie Studios at Cambridge, MA.

Nicole’s passion for the arts began as a young child through her experiences with dance and theater, and more recently through her personal hobbies of refinishing furniture and woodworking. Nicole hopes to unite her academic and professional experiences in family therapy and financial aid with her appreciation for the positive impact of the arts on communities and her desire to utilize the arts in aiding individuals and families through their experiences.

“The Arts Administration program not only provides me with the tools and the opportunities to truly unite my passion for the arts with my professional skills, but also to expand my knowledge about non-profit management and the positive impact that the arts can have in a variety of fields.”
