PT Job: Upbeat New Hampshire Executive Director
Upbeat New Hampshire is seeking an executive director to manage the operations of a growing education non-profit and provide strategic direction to the organization.
Upbeat New Hampshire (Upbeat) is an established musical educational program with an excellent reputation emphasizing access, inclusion, and social justice. Upbeat provides small-group strings training and a Youth Orchestra program for the Greater Nashua NH area, a community with diverse public schools that are historically underserved for string and orchestral education.
Upbeat students rapidly develop from first-time musicians to a full-size orchestra through professional teaching artists, including recently appointed Upbeat Youth Orchestra’s music director, a renowned professional conductor. Upbeat empowers students to share success through collaboration, and high expectations. Upbeat heavily subsidizes all students. All students receive an instrument to use for the year with 60% of students receiving a full scholarship.
Upbeat is affiliated with El Sistema and is a fiscal agency of United Way of Greater Nashua. The new Executive Director will continue to build the educational program and youth orchestra with a consistent emphasis on quality, relationships, and integrity.

Has the following background:
- Proven experience delivering results as a servant leader who defines their success through the success of others
- Strong background working with motivated students from diverse socioeconomic, demographic, and philosophical backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to partner with public schools and community institutions
- Deep familiarity with the classical music community
- Experience with top-tier youth orchestras and similar classical education programs
- Demonstrated financial acumen
- Written and verbal communication that simultaneously conveys strategic vision and attention to detail
Operational responsibilities:
- Strengthen partnerships with students, parents, schools, media, and community institutions
- Coordinate day-to-day support for 8+ teachers (and growing!) to facilitate group lessons in 8 elementary schools, a youth orchestra led by a renowned professional conductor, concert events, and a summer day camp
- Oversee grant writing, fundraising events, and instrument inventory management
- Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier teaching artists and administrative staff
- Manage and report revenue, expenditure, and budgets
- Modernize and maintain web presence, including the website and social media
- Work remote and on-site in Nashua, NH as responsibilities require
Development responsibilities:
- Continue increasing student enrollment without compromising quality
- Develop and execute organizational strategy
- Increase grant and donor funding, to increase capability to develop staff and programming
- Identify opportunities, and implement programming, for volunteer engagement
- Regularly engage the board as a resource, recruiting new board members to enable program growth as needs arise
Average 30 hour work week, hours vary based on concert schedules.
The salary for this position is $40,000-$45,000 per year, actual salary will reflect experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation time, sick/personal time; and employer-subsidized health insurance.
