Join us for a European Studies lunch talk by William Phelan, Associate Professor and Jean Monnet Chair at Trinity College Dublin. Moderated by Daniela Caruso, Jean Monnet Chair and Professor of Law, Boston University School of Law, and Vlad Perju, Professor of Law, Boston College Law School.

Professor Phelan’s presentation will draw connections between the ‘constitutional’ doctrines of European law first declared by the Court of Justice in 1963 and 1964, and the constitutional revisions pursued by Robert Lecourt as a leading politician in Fourth Republic France.

William Phelan publishes on the law, politics and history of the European Court of Justice. Phelan’s publications include Great Judgments of the European Court of Justice: Rethinking the Landmark Cases of the Foundational Period (Cambridge, 2019) which was included in European Journal of International Law Editor-in-Chief J.H.H. Weiler’s “10 Good Reads” for 2020 (in distinguished and varied company), https://www.ejiltalk.org/10-good-reads-part-2/ and in “Legal Books of the Year 2021” [Juristische Bücher des Jahres], selected by leading German law journal, JuristenZeitung.
