Boston University Stage Troupe Presents Assassins by Stephen Sondheim: From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space in a musical revue in which both assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact, and inspire each other to perform harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. Bold, original, disturbing, and alarmingly funny, Assassins spans several musical styles and many decades and culminates in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Sondheim’s signature blend of intelligently stunning lyrics and beautiful music combine with a panoramic story in a powerfully provocative production that paves the way for discourse about the state of politics and the American Dream. Content warning: This show deals with themes of violence and gun violence in America in a historical and modern context. The show includes the use of prop guns and gun sound effects. This show also includes references to and depictions of suicide as well as death scenes. Racial slurs are said during this production to reflect the characters' beliefs in the historical context they lived in.
