Interplanetary Languages

In the video conversation that begins this section, “Poems as Planets,” a participant responds to the suggestion that different poems (or poets) are like different countries: the idiom, the manners and customs, may take some getting used to. She says that her experience confirms that idea, using the example of going from the poetry of Andrew Marvell to that of Marianne Moore. Her statement inspires the further idea that the variety might be that of different planets. But that opens the question of how to interpret and enjoy this variety.
