Why should I go?
When it comes to scouting out a lively, grassy place to bask on a late summer’s day, you won’t do much better than Lawn on D. The nearly three-acre green space, which opened in Boston’s popular Seaport neighborhood in 2014, is designed for both public and private events during the warm weather months. Visitors can relax in one of the many colorful lounge chairs (there’s free Wi-Fi, too), lay out a picnic (guests can bring their own food and nonalcoholic beverages when the concession stand is closed), or play games, including pickleball.
One of Lawn On D’s most well-known features, its glowing swings, are gone this season. In their place are two new additions: “Kaleidoscope Garden,” featuring a field of illuminated discs that change color when blown by the wind and surround a mirrored kaleidoscope in the center, and “Urban Grove,” nest seating under a shimmery mirrored leaf canopy as the lighting colors change after dark.
Elsewhere on the Lawn are several lawn games, including bocce, cornhole, and ping-pong.
Thursday through Saturday, there’s also a bar, where food and drink are available for purchase, as well as live music and lawn game tournaments, with the chance to win prizes.
Bring your appetite, too. Partner Rebel Restaurants, Inc., which operates Jack’s Coal Fired Pizza, Temazcal Tequila Cantina, and Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill, runs a popular concession stand that serves tacos and other yummy food, as well as alcohol for those 21+, on Thursdays, from 3 to 10 pm, Fridays and Saturdays, from noon to 10:30 pm, and Sundays, from noon to 10 pm.
Check out Lawn on D’s event calendar for information about other food and drink programming, including Modern Markets @ LOD, a space for makers on three September Sundays. Also coming in September is the Angry Orchard Lawn Takeover & Pickleball Tournament, with custom cocktails.
As a reminder, dogs are not allowed, and no outside food or drink is permitted during concession hours.
