There are 11 comments on No, You’re Not Imagining It: Seasonal Allergies Are Getting Worse

  1. Another great tool to help with allergic rhinitis symptoms is the use of an isotonic nasal wash such as the Sinus Rinse, Neti Pot or Navage. Use twice a day to wash out that pollen and other allergens.

  2. Maybe those who have had COVID are suffering from higher allergies as a result of their infection….But that wasn’t even considered in this piece.

There are more factors to allergies than pollen counts.

    1. Since covid my allergies have been unbearable. I received shots regularly for about 20 years and then was weaned off. I was fine for several years so long as I took an over the counter allergy medication during peak seasons. I got covid in 2021, and got the shot and booster, also in 2021. The late summer and early fall of 2021, 2022, and now 2023 have been debilitating. My eyes get incredibly dry, my lids dry up and my eyes become bloodshot. I have to keep rubbing them. Suddenly they become uncontrollably watery as if I’m crying heavily. It stops and they become incredibly dry again. I’ve had to go to the doctors twice and they tell me just use eye drops and take allergy medication. It isn’t working. Something, whether it was the covid, or the vaccine, destroyed my immunity built up from over 2 decades of allergy injections.

      1. There’s really no reason whatsoever to think it was the vaccines. There’s a very small temporal correlation but primarily it is more likely that a combination of COVID itself (which damages the immune system and which, like polio, we will not know the long-term effects of for some time) and the massive destruction of biodiversity/huge shift in climate caused your allergies to be worse. The impulse to plant it on the vaccine is due to the politicization of the vaccine. Scientifically speaking, logically speaking, speaking from any point except weirdo propaganda, it is not even a top 5 potential causes. Even with the uncertainty which you are leaning into in making your deduction.

  3. Interesting observation. I just recovered from Covid and my allergy symptoms seems much worse this year. I was also searching for more information about that topic, Were you able to find any information?

  4. I am 88 years old and for the past 2 winters I have been sneezing like crazy and my eyes are constantly watering. I find if I take Zyrtec once a day it helps a lot but my eyes still bother me. Thank you so much for the information .

    1. I, too, have had these constantly-watering eyes (I’m 37). I’ll look into Zyrtec. I’ve had Covid twice, despite having had the shot twice, but I think these allergens have picked up in the last few years.

  5. This article is a relief to read because it confirmed that it’s not all in my head! I’ve been suffering from allergy symptoms for years, and it’s good to know that I’m not the only one experiencing this. This was really interesting and informative, and I appreciate the useful tips provided for managing allergy symptoms. The fact that allergy symptoms can be confused with COVID-19 symptoms is definitely a concern, and it’s making me a little nervous about allergy season this year. Thanks for shedding light on this important topic and confirming that my allergy symptoms are real!

    1. I don’t confuse my allergies with covid, but I fully believe the vaccination and booster killed my immunity to pollens in the late summer and early fall. I received injections for years and was told my immunity was strong enough I didn’t need them anymore. I was fine for the next 8 years. Got the covid shot and booster, now I have to take time out of work the past years in September and October for what is called “allergic conjunctivitis” which is a nice way of saying I want to scratch out my eyes they itch so badly. NEVER experienced this in all the years I had allergies before the covid injections.

  6. I heard someone on a radio station once in Boston talking about reasons why allergies are getting worse is the contractors plant male plants because they’re cheaper and easier to manage and that this fills the air and our eyes and our minds with pollen.
