Alene Bouranova is a Pacific Northwest native and a BU alum (COM’16). After earning a BS in journalism, she spent four years at Boston magazine writing, copyediting, and managing production for all publications. These days, she covers campus happenings, current events, and more for BU Today. Fun fact: she’s still using her Terrier card from 2013. When she’s not writing about campus, she’s trying to lose her Terrier card so BU will give her a new one. She lives in Cambridge with her plants. Profile

  1. Glad to see BU is moving in the right direction! This will help countless generations of future LGBTQ+ students. The student task force should be incredibly proud. Congratulations!

  2. As a BU alumnus both from an undergraduate and doctoral program I am so happy to hear this news. In the late 80’s when I was a doctoral student I could not be out on campus for fear of reprisals. At that time John Silbur who was president of the university banned the gay and lesbian group on campus. For a women in the process of coming out this sent me a clear message. It was dangerous to come out on this campus. As a result the last 2 years of graduate school I was completely closeted, even among my closest friends. For the last 26 years I have been a psychology professor at a state university in CT. From the beginning of my time here and for many years I fought for an LGBT center, and was the faculty advisor of the student LGBT group. I did not want students to go through what I went through. After many years of fighting, an LGBT center was established in 2010. To see the positive changes at BU under the leadership of President Brown, warms my heart and I say kudos for caring about LGBT students.
