  1. Looking forward to this publication. The Thompson Ice House in Maine is a great living history of the ice harvesting era. http://thompsonicehouse.com/. The “ice pond” on Country Pond in Newton, NH still has remnants of the conveyor system they used when harvesting ice in the early 1900s.

  2. My great, great grandfather brought ice to Madras for Tudor in 1853 onboard his ship . During the trip, after unloading the ice in Madras, his wife who traveled with him, died a week after giving birth onboard when they were becalmed in the Bay of Bengal and wanting to bring her body home to bury he built a waterproof coffin , put her body in it and filled it with cognac. The baby lived and was my great grandfather.
