Why should I go?
After a week of straight 90-plus degree weather, what better way to cool off than a weekend at the beach? Revere Beach is holding the 18th annual International Sand Sculpting Festival on its three miles of sandy shores, with an expected million visitors coming to see the elaborate sculptures from talented artists, during a weekend of food vendors, free entertainment, and Saturday night fireworks.
The annual festival, the beach’s biggest event of the year, is hosted by the Revere Beach Partnership, a nonprofit dedicated to maintaining the beach.
The real star of the show will be the finely detailed giant sand sculptures in a special fenced-off gallery for visitors to enjoy. This year’s theme is “Wonders of the World,” and will feature sand creations from artists from countries around the globe, including Poland, Japan, and Belgium. Past sculptures have included larger-than-life statues, detailed mosaics, and of course, giant sandcastles. There’s sure to be a wide variety of world wonders to match this year’s theme.
And for those just looking to head to the beach, Revere is a great place to catch a tan, relax, and swim. Though the water may feel cold, this weekend’s heat wave will definitely warrant a dip in the ocean.
