There are 3 comments on BU’s Masked Basketball Teams Attract National Attention

  1. I commend BU for its sensible mask policy. However, wearing masks doesn’t go far enough to keep athletes as safe as possible. Transmission by contact with contaminated surfaces must be avoided. Therefore, each time a pass is attempted, play should stop and the ball should be fully sanitized. A minimum of six feet of distance must be maintained between opposing players at all times. Any player who encroaches into the safety sphere of an opposing team’s player should receive a foul (2 shots). Masks must never be allowed to fall below the nose, as this could spread contamination. An exposed nose should constitute a flagrant technical foul; two free throws and turnover of possession to the opposing team. Two violations would result in ejection. After each score, refs should consult the replay monitors to search for nose violations. Lastly, it is unacceptable to risk the exchange of any body fluids (sweat, spit, tears, blood, dander). Masks are not enough. All players should be required to wear full body neoprene diving suits and snorkeling googles while in the arena. These are unprecedented times. The safety of our student-athletes is paramount. No measure should be off the table if it could prevent the spread to even one student athlete or referee.
