  1. I still miss those late night/early mornings, putting the paper to bed at 2:00 (and sometimes 3:00; hey, delays happen). The camaraderie and combination of small town/big city feel working there. But I’m pretty sure my time at the Freep, on my resume, was what got me my first editorial job, which put me on a path to a long career in science fiction and fantasy. Now I’m working on books, which don’t have the pounding, every-day deadline schedule, so they’re easier to live with, but there are times my nostalgia for the daily-newspaper days catch up with me again.

  2. My friend, Janet (Jan) Sherbin was a proud reporter for the FREEP. from 1970 to 1972. She went on to write and edit the in-house newsletter at Proctor and Gamble and to write a children’s book.

She would have been happy to celebrate the FREEP’s anniversary, but unfortunately, she passed away in 2018.
