  1. The continued focus on masks does not make sense on many levels:

    1. The evidence on mask effectiveness is weak. See, for example, https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub5/full:

“There is low certainty evidence from nine trials (3507 participants) that wearing a mask may make little or no difference to the outcome of influenza‐like illness (ILI) compared to not wearing a mask (risk ratio (RR) 0.99, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.82 to 1.18. There is moderate certainty evidence that wearing a mask probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of laboratory‐confirmed influenza compared to not wearing a mask…”

    2. The emerging picture is that large *indoor* gatherings are a major issue.

I know that masks are a popular virtue signal these days, but in public health it is important to limit the length and timing of interventions, and to focus on those that offer the greatest evidence-supported chance of mitigating disease spread.

The repeated focus on masking seems counter-productive.
