Letters from president and provost address sexual harassment claims against David Marchant

A letter sent Friday afternoon from BU President Robert A. Brown to all BU faculty and a separate letter sent by Jean Morrison, University provost and chief academic officer, to the College of Arts & Sciences department of earth and environment announced Brown’s decision to terminate the faculty appointment of David Marchant, a tenured CAS professor of earth and environment. The decision came after widely reported allegations of sexual harassment by Marchant led to a 13-month investigation by the University into the allegations made against him. Both letters noted that the Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Friday to uphold Brown’s recommendation regarding Marchant.

In his letter to faculty, Brown wrote: “I want to take this opportunity to affirm the University’s commitment to maintaining a living and learning environment free from harassment of any kind.”

Congratulations BU on bowing to Marxists, extremusts and political operatives who aim to eraticate this nation that they so hate by perpetuating race warfare. I am and always will be a Rhett fan, and am now embarassed to be a BU graduate of such a racist institution. I am not and never have been a racist. To consider that Rhett’s name celebrates racism shows how ignorant people can be. You should be ashamed BU administration. If you truly believe your mascot’s name celebrated slavery and racism, then you should all step down, close your doors, and return all prior tuition paid, as you all are now racists and slavery promoters, and should all be removed just like your racist slave owning fictitious dog! I call on you, President, Robert Brown, to step down and return all your salary. You represent and celebrate the confederacy and slavery because you share the same name as Robert E. Lee. You have made this racist name association the precedent. So be brave and step down and denounce your racism by changing your name!. This mascot nickname change was the most important and pressing social and academic issue that you felt needed addressing above all. Wow!!
