  1. Awesome stories on the Cuba trip and a brush with a celebrity. Nice job Joel. It appears to have been a life changing experience. Can’t wait to hear more!

  2. My father died in a hospital in havana from the worse medical assistance, infection, filthy beds, dirty nurses and horrible facilities. He could have live a longer life. You all don’t know the truth. I encourage all who those think or say that stupidity, Stay there, live there and be part of that community .This way you all will enjoy the real Cuba…”

  3. Fascinating. I went to the Soviet Union as a college student in 1973 – some of the photos remind me of that time – thanks for sharing this!

  4. Outstanding article Joel. Loved hearing about the BU program/students’ trip to Cuba and all of its lifestyle nuances. Makes me want to go!

  5. Lovely feature. My wife and I just came back from a seven week trip to Cuba. The article really captures the complexities of the place. I’m encouraged to see that BU is providing our students opportunities to see for themselves.

  6. Great story and wonderful opportunity that BU has created. Our students clearly left their mark with their intelligence and humanity. Thank you for sharing!

  7. As a BU Alum it’s sad to see my school parrot the Cuban government’s narrative and propaganda. The Cuban regime has consistently oppressed the Cuban people for 63 years. A vibrant and prosperous country transformed into a nightmare for its people. Not surprised by this just sad. If BU Students had the opportunity to live like a Cuban maybe they would have a different opinion. Many Canadians and Brits realize this on vacations to the island. Just google my nightmare Cuban holiday or vacation for more details. I personally do not visit human zoos as I have people that I love stuck there by the cruel zookeepers. Funny how people boycott Sea World but would visit Cuba.
