There are 3 comments on New Research on Alzheimer’s

  1. I think this article is overly sensationalizing the research rather than presenting the facts. First off, there are currently three approved drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s, opposed to what the author is claiming. Second, this sounds overly optimistic for a drug that hasn’t been tested in animals, and the kinase is still unknown. A good drug will need good bioavailability, etc. I agree that the research is essential, but I fear the public will see false hope in this sensationalism.

    1. Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for your comment. Part of the role of the BU Research website is to publicize our scientists’ basic research. Before we posted this piece, the editor and I read it closely to ensure that the message was clear: this is early lab research, which is years away from drug development or patient therapies. It’s worrisome that this message didn’t come through, so I reviewed the article and added some additional caveats for clarity.

To answer your other concern, this article discusses drug therapies that attack Abeta specifically. This has been seen as one of the most promising areas for drug research in Alzheimer’s, but to date all drug trials of this approach have failed.

      Thanks again for your comment,
