Men’s and Women’s B-Ball Tonight
Games at Agganis are free for faculty, staff, and anyone on the Dean’s List
It’s not March Madness, but it’s February fun. And it’s free fun, for the more than 4,600 students who made the Dean’s List last fall, as well as for BU faculty and staff.
Tonight, the Terrier men’s and women’s basketball teams will take the court at Agganis Arena. The Terrier women play Stony Brook at 5:30 p.m., and the men meet Binghamton at 7:30.
The evening marks the second annual Dean’s List Night: students who made the grade last semester can pick up a free ticket and food voucher at their school or college. Faculty and staff need only present a BU ID at the Agganis ticket office, 925 Commonwealth Ave., between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. today for two complimentary tickets.
The provost and a dean or associate dean from every school or college will be at the game, and half-time entertainment will feature one student from each. After the men’s game, all BU students, faculty, and staff are invited onto the court for a group photo. All are encouraged to show off scarlet-and-white attire.
The Terrier men’s team is coming off a down-to-the-wire 58-55 win over Hartford at the Case Gym February 13. Trailing by one point with 5.6 seconds remaining, Jake O’Brien (CGS’10) drained a three-pointer. Hitting one of two free throws after forcing a turnover on the ensuing possession, the Terriers improved to 14-12 overall and 9-5 in America East play.
O’Brien, BU’s America East Player of the Game, posted a team-high 16 points, along with a career-high 14 rebounds, for his fifth career double-double. John Holland (CGS’09, COM’11) tallied 10 of his 11 points in the second half, and Tyler Morris (SMG’10) recorded 9 points, with 5 assists.
As a team, BU shot a season-low 27.9 percent (19-for-68) from the field and lost the rebound battle, 51-43. That’s usually a sure recipe for defeat, but the Terriers recouped at the free throw line, hitting 17 for 22. Here’s an odd statistic: the team is now 2-0 when shooting below 30 percent from the field (the first was a defeat of Indiana in November).
The women Terriers, with a record of 13-11 overall and 9-3 America East, have won four of their last five games. On February 13, the team rallied from a 14-point deficit, backed by a 17-2 run, to claim a 69-65 victory over Albany.
Tonight’s doubleheader at Agganis Arena starts at 5:30 p.m., when the Terrier women take on Stony Brook. The men’s Terriers meet Binghamton at 7:30. Tickets are free to students who made the Dean’s list last semester, and two complimentary tickets are available for all BU faculty and staff. General admission is $10. Students with a Sports Pass will be given free tickets at the ticket office. Students without a Sports Pass pay $5. Groups of 10 or more pay $4 a ticket.
