Cones Against Cancer at Scooper Bowl ’10
Jimmy Fund holds its 28th annual ice cream extravaganza
The Jimmy Fund is scooping up some delicious summer treats at City Hall Plaza today for the 28th annual Scooper Bowl, its three-day cancer research fundraiser.
Scooper Bowl features all-you-can-eat ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, and gelato from nine favorite purveyors, among them Ben & Jerry’s, Baskin-Robbins, and Edy’s. Scooper Bowl is not just about frozen treats; there will be entertainment each day for those on the hunt for local bands. Today’s lineup includes the Boston Breakers, the city’s women’s professional soccer team, at 1 p.m., the Friends of Broadway at 3 p.m., and Fast Times, an ’80s cover group, at 5:30. Tomorrow’s talent round-up is artists Michael and Marisa at 12:30 p.m., Clarias, a five-man pop-rock band from Boston, at 2 p.m., JADA at 5 p.m., and McAlister Drive at 6 p.m.
The Jimmy Fund, founded in 1948, supports the fight against cancer in children and adults and is the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. Since its first Scooper Bowl in 1983, the Jimmy Fund has teamed up with various organizations to raise funds for Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl runs through tomorrow, Thursday, June 10, from noon to 8 p.m. City Hall Plaza can be reached by taking the Green Line to Government Center. Tickets are $8 for ages 10 and up, $4 for ages 3 to 9, and free for children under age 3. There is also a Scooper Pass available for $15 to enter the event up to three times.
