Preserving the Past’s Tunes on the Turntables
Ford Curran hosts Get Smart! with the Aggrolites on Monday at Great Scott’s. Click here to hear a preview.

When Ford Curran, staff coordinator at the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center, isn’t helping scholars with research in the center’s archives, he can often be heard DJing in local clubs. Curran, a.k.a. Ford E. Buxworth, selects records from his extensive collection of 1960s ska, reggae, soul, and Motown. A tireless promoter, he often books live acts as well.
Next Monday, December 4, Curran hosts Get Smart! at Great Scott’s, 1222 Commonwealth Ave., Allston. Headlining the 18+ event are the Aggrolites, a rocksteady band on tour from L.A. With vintage instruments and a ferociously soulful crooner on lead vocals, their sound is straight out of a bygone era. Local punk rockers Tommy & the Terrors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10.
