Rev. James J. Olson, (STH’02), and Darrick Jackson were married this summer at Marsh Chapel, the first same-sex marriage to take place there.
“Since we are both liturgy and ritual studies scholars, our wedding bulletin had footnotes!” says Olson, who is associate dean at Marsh Chapel and a doctoral candidate at the School of Theology. Jackson will be ordained a minister in the Unitarian-Universalist Association in 2007.
More than 200 guests attended the June ceremony, which Olsen describes as “elegant and simple and a blending of our two religious traditions.” Rev. Arnold Thomas and Rev. Kim Crawfield Harvie officiated, and Dean of Marsh Chapel Robert Cummings Neville spoke at the service. A reception was held at the Howard Thurman Center.
