Joe\u2019s MA project focused on landscape survey and GIS work on the important Sino-American field project at Shangqiu (\u201cShang-chee-yo\u201d) in the North China Plain. This project, established in 1990 as one of the very first Sino-American collaborative field projects since before WWII, explores the cultural development of China\u2019s earliest Bronze Age dynasties, including the establishment of huge walled cities.
