Curriculum Vitae<\/a><\/p>\n

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the death of Al Wesolowsky.\u00a0 Al was for more than three decades the Managing Editor of the Journal of Field Archaeology<\/em> and another six as Art Director at Boston University and was well known to all members of the archaeological community in the wider BU and JFA<\/em> families.\u00a0 He retired a decade ago and moved to Vermont.\u00a0 A Texas native, he conducted archaeological research in Texas, Serbia, and Greece while pursuing graduate studies in archaeology at the University of Cambridge (UK).\u00a0 His BU career began with the foundation of the JFA<\/em> by James R. Wiseman, and his experiences as the Managing Editor led to his passion for graphic arts, type design, and publishing, which he pursued after his retirement at the renowned Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, Vermont. Al graduated from The Center for Cartoon Studies in 2009.<\/p>\n

Brendan McDermott appreciation of Al, “I first met Al in June of 1985, during the excavation of an almshouse burial ground in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.\u00a0 In his late 30\u2019s, he was by then the Al most all of us knew. He had spent part of his adolescence in Turkey wandering ancient ruins, and had nearly 20 years\u2019 worth of field experience, ranging from prehistoric sites of the old Southwest of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas, to the Lerna Hollow Cemetery and the Fountain of the Lamps at Ancient Corinth, and then numerous field seasons at a Roman provincial capital in Stobi, Yugoslavia (now North Macedonia).\u00a0 He had been recruited for the latter Classical excavations by Professor James Wiseman,” click here to read the rest.<\/a><\/p>\n
