Congratulation to Laura Masur! Successful PhD Defense and a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Job!

Laura Masor (GRS’19) successfully defended her PhD, Monday, April 1, 2019.  Dissertation Title: Priestly Plantations: An Archaeology of Capitalism and Community in British North America.”

Laura starting this fall has a tenure-track Assistant Professor position waiting for her at The Catholic University of America, School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Anthropology.  Congratulations Laura, we are so proud of you!

Laura’s areas of interest, historical archaeology; environmental archaeology; zooarchaeology; GIS and landscape; immigration; religion; public and community archaeology; NAGPRA; Chesapeake and Middle Atlantic regions.  Her research interests, I use historical research and environmental archaeology to study relationships between landscapes and the people who dwell in them. My dissertation focuses on the development of plantations owned by the Society of Jesus in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and the communities that grew around them. I seek to incorporate public outreach, education, and community collaboration in my research.
