Laura Lewis, a College of Engineering assistant professor of biomedical engineering and faculty member at the Center for Systems Neuroscience, is developing groundbreaking methods for peering into the human brain during sleep. Revealing the first-ever images of cerebrospinal fluid washing in and out of the brain while in a sleep state, Lewis’ research may lead to insights about the health of memory. And her work has been turning heads, including at the prestigious Pew Charitable Trusts, which in June of 2021 announced Lewis as one of their newest biomedical scholars. Lewis also earned a Sloan Research Fellowship earlier in the year. She is one of many BU faculty to see their hard work recognized beyond the University.
