A Vibrant Academic Experience

As a leading residential research university that is home to nearly 34,000 students, the academic experience is our top priority. Even when life is upended by a global pandemic. While we temporarily pivoted to remote teaching and learning, a solid pedagogical foundation, continually developed over time, allowed us to easily transition back to where we belong—in the classrooms, in the labs, on campus, interacting, collaborating, discovering, growing, and thriving.

From the moment the pandemic forced us to pause campus life and conduct operations virtually, our goal was to reunite students and faculty in the classrooms, labs, and studios, as soon as was safely possible. And in 2020, we did just that.

Academic Pioneers Turn Their Tassels

In fall of 2018, BU’s freshman class embarked on an academic journey that has fundamentally altered the type of student and citizen we send out into the world. In the spring of 2022, these pioneers will be the first to earn their degrees while fulfilling requirements of the BU Hub, the University-wide general education program.

Edgy Student Campaign Turns Heads at the CDC

With a well-placed f-bomb, a group of students made sure their peers were paying attention to the University’s health and safety protocols on campus last fall. Provocatively titled “F*ck It Won’t Cut It,” which plays off a common student expression, the awareness campaign sought to convey an urgent reality: if the entire student body did not take social distancing, masking, and other COVID-19 preventive measures seriously when they returned, campus life would cease to exist.
