{"id":18,"date":"2010-05-06T14:03:46","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T18:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aphasiacenter\/?page_id=18"},"modified":"2018-03-26T11:18:57","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T15:18:57","slug":"student-training","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aphasiacenter\/student-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Aphasia Resource Center is a state-of-the-art training facility for graduate students in the Boston University<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/academics\/departments-programs\/speech-language-hearing-sciences\/\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department<\/span><\/a>.<em> <\/em>Graduate students in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/academics\/departments-programs\/occupational-therapy\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Occupational Therapy<\/span>,<\/a> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/academics\/departments-programs\/physical-therapy-athletic-training\/\">Physical Therapy<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/academics\/departments-programs\/health-sciences\/\">Health Sciences<\/a><\/span> also train in the Center.<em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>BU teaches evidence-based practice in aphasia treatment, grounded in science, observation and analysis. At the Center, our students can relate their academic learning to real-world practice. Since we follow a Life Participation Approach\u2014helping individuals with aphasia reconnect with their community\u2014students learn a great deal about the psychosocial aspects of living with an acquired neurogenic disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate and, in some cases, undergraduate students in the Communication Disorders rehabilitation sciences facilitate the weekly and monthly aphasia groups with the guidance of licensed clinical supervisors in their respective disciplines.\u00a0Students meet with their supervisors weekly to discuss both client and clinician performance and to plan for the following week.<\/p>\n<p>To read some student testimonials, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aphasiacenter\/in-their-own-words\">In Their Own\u00a0Words.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Aphasia Resource Center is a state-of-the-art training facility for graduate students in the Boston University Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department.
