This
\n study assessed a multifaceted collaborative care intervention (delivered
\n by a master’s level case manager, a trauma support specialist,
\n a psychiatrist, and a psychologist) to prevent or ameliorate these
\n conditions among acutely injured trauma survivors.<\/p>\n
Researchers
\n randomly assigned 120 trauma center patients aged 18 or older (50%
\n with alcohol abuse and\/or dependence) to usual care (UC) or collaborative
\n care (CC). Routine integration of mental
\n health and substance abuse services into the acute management
\n of individual or mass trauma appears to decrease alcohol
\n consequences and even prevent PTSD, although studies of
\n health-related quality of life and cost-effectiveness are
\n warranted.
