Karen Ross is an Associate Professor Program Director for the Graduate Programs in Conflict Resolution in the Department of Conflict Resolution, Human Security, and Global Governance at UMass Boston’s McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies. Karen’s teaching, research, and community-oriented work explore issues at the intersection of dialogue, social activism, peace-building, and education, with a particular focus on understanding the way grassroots social change interventions and activism can help fuel broader societal transformation, in the US and internationally. Her methodological work emphasizes how research can be an inclusive and democratic process and a force for consciousness-raising, solidarity, and recognition. Karen is the author of Youth Encounter Programs in Israel: Pedagogy, Identity and Social Change (Syracuse University Press, 2017) and a co-author of the methodology text, Making Sense of Social Research Methodology: A Student- and Practitioner-Oriented Approach (SAGE, 2021).
