Génesis Lara, PhD, is a scholar of the Caribbean and Afro-Latinx studies. Her book project focuses on the ways Dominican women of color challenged state violence in the Dominican Republic during the 1960s. Her research centers the critical role women played in crafting Caribbean conceptions of human rights and revolutions. Dr. Lara’s research has been supported by the Tinker Foundation, the University of California Consortium for Black Studies and the Dominican Studies Institute. She completed her PhD at the University of California, Davis.
