Ben Schmack

Ben Schmack earned his PhD in American Studies at the University of Kansas in 2022 and his MA in History from Northern Illinois University in 2015. Schmack was the 2021 recipient of the New York Labor History Association’s Bernard Bellush Prize. He has published articles focusing on research interests related to labor radicalism, racial capitalism, white supremacy, and State repression in Left History and American Studies in 2021 and 2019 respectively. His dissertation and ongoing project, “Hate-State: Klansmen, Communists, and America’s Perpetual Red Scare,” focuses on physical and rhetorical clashes between Communist activists and the KKK throughout the twentieth century, as well as State interactions with these ideological forces.
